A Devotion on Pursuing Peace and Holiness

In a world that often feels chaotic, peace can seem like a distant dream. Yet, as Christians, we’re called to be people of peace, reflecting the heart of our Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. How do we live this out in a world that’s anything but peaceful? Let’s dive into what Scripture says about pursuing peace and holiness in our lives.

A Future Without Peace

John’s vision in Revelation paints a sobering picture of a future where peace is stripped from the earth. He writes:

“And another horse, fiery red, came out, and the one who rode it was granted permission to take peace from the earth, so that people would butcher one another, and he was given a huge sword.” (Revelation 6:3-4, NET)

Thank God we haven’t seen this prophecy unfold in full! I can’t even imagine it. The glimpses of violence and unrest we see on the news or in videos are already heart-wrenching. In a world that’s often lacking peace, what’s our role as believers?

Pursuing Peace and Holiness

Scripture gives us a clear call in Hebrews:

“Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness, for without it no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14, NET)

We know what’s coming in the future, but until that day, we’re called to be peacemakers, living lives of holiness. That means lowering the temperature in tense situations, choosing grace over conflict, and reflecting Jesus in all we do. It’s not always easy—sometimes it feels impossible—but Jesus, our Prince of Peace, equips us to be His sons and daughters. Let’s strive to live in a way that others see Him through our peace and holiness.

Father, help us to pursue peace with everyone and to walk in holiness. In a world full of chaos, let our lives reflect Your peace, the kind that only comes from Jesus. Give us the strength to be peacemakers, even when it’s hard, and may others see You through us. Amen!
