Separations

A Devotion on Handling Life’s Separations

Don’t pretend you’re not being rejected when you are. As painful as it may be, remember that it’s not necessarily “them” vs. you, or you vs. those who make you feel rejected. It might just be that those who make you feel that way are unknowingly doing you a favor. They simply may not fit into the plan God has for your life, and that’s okay!

Facing Rejection

In Genesis 12:1 (NET), the Lord said to Abram, "Go out from your country, your relatives, and your father's household to the land that I will show you."

Divine Separation

Some people just aren’t meant to be in your life, even within your own family. For whatever the reason, Abraham’s family didn’t fit into the plans God had for him, and perhaps Abraham didn’t fit into the plans God had for his other family members. Although Abraham was to have left his family, his nephew Lot went with him, and guess what? The will of the Lord still happened—they ended up separating because there wasn’t enough room for both of them to stay together in the same location.

Trusting Through Tears

Just because there is separation in relationships doesn’t mean the other person is bad. We need to trust God more with that and be able to squarely face the fact that some people just aren’t for you, and you aren’t for them. If there is an ugly tear in a relationship, we need to trust God with that as well and choose to keep moving forward in love and forgiveness towards whomever for whatever the reason.

Eternal Comfort

Be content and thankful for those we have, whether few or many. No matter who is in or out, who comes or goes, the good news is He will never leave you nor forsake you! He wants our focus on Him. To me, there is comfort in the following passage of scripture: Hebrews 13:5-6 reads, "Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.' So we can say with confidence, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'"

We normally don’t need to fear those who aren’t in our lives, but we can be at peace knowing He will never abandon us, and know that He is our helper with no need to fear. Amen!
