Words Matter
A Devotion on the Power of Words and Truth
Words matter. They're not just sounds or text; they shape our thoughts, influence our actions, and can lead us down paths of light or darkness. The battle over cancel culture reveals just how powerful words can be, transforming or manipulating societal norms and personal beliefs.
Discerning Truth
As children of God, we're called to discern the words we hear, measuring them against the truth of His Word. Remember, just because someone labels themselves or others a certain way, it doesn’t make it true. We must test the spirits and words against God's Word in Scripture. 1 John 4:1 reminds us to “test the spirits to see whether they are from God.”
The Danger of Deceptive Words
Sweet, soothing words can be deceptive—a sweet poison to the soul. They can mask manipulation, especially when influencing the innocent, like children. We're not here to go along to get along; Jesus Himself stood firm against societal tides. John 18:37 shows Jesus testifying to the truth, even under pressure.
God as the Source of Truth
God is Truth. Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie.” Jesus declared Himself as “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6), emphasizing His eternal consistency. The Holy Spirit is our guide into all truth, revealing what is to come without deviation (John 16:13).
A Call to Vigilance
In a world full of voices, many proclaim their own truths, often opposing God's. We must be vigilant. Delusion can be as potent and dangerous as any poison. Words matter, so we must carefully choose what we say and what we accept as truth. Lord, I need more of Your wisdom and discernment!
